Buža is Dubrovnik’s worst-kept secret — a bar carved into the rocks outside the southern city walls, where you sit on cushions on bare rock above the Adriatic. There’s no sign, no reservation, and no roof. Just drinks, cliffs, and sunset.
How to find it
From inside the old town, walk towards the southern walls (behind the cathedral area). Look for small hand-painted signs saying “cold drinks” with arrows. You’ll pass through a literal hole in the city wall. There are two Buža bars — Buža I (upper, smaller) and Buža II (lower, larger, more dramatic). Buža II is the one most people want.
What to expect
Rocky platforms with cushions, tables wedged between boulders, and a bar counter. The sea is directly below — some spots you can jump in for a swim (carefully). No food beyond basic snacks. The views are directly south over the open Adriatic with Lokrum island to the left.
Prices
Beer €6–8, cocktails €12–15, soft drinks €4–5. Cash preferred, though some accept cards. Not cheap, but you’re paying for the setting. One or two drinks is the sweet spot.
Sunset timing
Arrive by 5pm in summer if you want a good spot facing the sunset. By 6pm the best rocks are taken. The golden hour light on the cliff face and walls above you is exceptional. Stay through sunset — the transition from golden to blue is Dubrovnik’s best light show.
Tips
Seasonal only — generally May to October, weather dependent. No shade — bring sunglasses. The rocks can be slippery when wet. Buža II sometimes plays music in the evenings. Not suitable for small children.
