Leave the medieval walls of Kotor, cruise along the Bay past Perast's Baroque palaces, cross into Croatia, and arrive at the Pearl of the Adriatic. One smooth border crossing, your driver handles everything.
Drive from Kotor to Dubrovnik in approximately 1h 45m. Private transfer from €180 per vehicle, all-inclusive — fuel, tolls, English-speaking driver, door-to-door.
Your driver meets you at your accommodation in Kotor—Old Town gate, Dobrota, or anywhere around the bay. For Old Town hotels, we meet at the nearest vehicle access point and help carry luggage. Water, and air conditioning ready from the start.
Just minutes from Kotor, Perast is the bay's most photogenic village. Stone palaces line the waterfront with two island churches floating offshore. A quick boat ride to Our Lady of the Rocks (€5 per person) is one of Montenegro's top experiences. Morning light here is spectacular for photographers.
After winding along the outer bay and past Herceg Novi, you reach the Karasovići / Debeli Brijeg crossing. Your driver handles all formalities—stay seated in the air-conditioned vehicle. EU/UK/US/Canadian passport holders pass through without a visa. The Montenegro exit and Croatia entry are side by side.
A charming harbour village just before Dubrovnik—quieter and more relaxed than its famous neighbour. Walk the promenade, have a coffee by the marina, or explore the Račić Mausoleum designed by Ivan Meštrović. A perfect last stop before the bustle of Dubrovnik.
Arrive at your accommodation anywhere in Dubrovnik—Old Town, Lapad, Ploče, Gruž port, or Dubrovnik Airport if you're catching a flight. Your driver drops you at the door with luggage. Old Town hotels: driver gets you to the nearest gate and helps carry bags.
One crossing each way. Your driver handles the lane, you stay in the vehicle.
Valid passport (or EU national ID card for EU citizens). Re-entering Croatia from Montenegro requires the same document you used to enter Montenegro.
Off-season (Oct–May): 5–10 minutes. Summer mornings: 10–20 minutes. July–August afternoons: 20–40 minutes. We time departures to minimise waits.
Stay seated in your air-conditioned vehicle. Your driver presents all documents, answers questions, and gets you through. We cross this border daily—we know the routine.

Traveling the other way? Dubrovnik to Kotor follows the same bay road in reverse—same price, same border crossing, descending into the Bay of Kotor instead of leaving it.
Book Dubrovnik → Kotor →Kotor to Dubrovnik is the reverse of our top Montenegro corridor — 93 km around Boka Kotorska and up the Adriatic coast to Croatia’s Old Town walls. About 2 hours direct, or 3+ with the typical Perast stop. Most bookings are one-way completing a Montenegro trip: guests who flew into Tivat Airport (TIV) or Podgorica (TGD), stayed 3–5 nights in Kotor or Budva, and now heading to Dubrovnik for their return flight out of DBV or onward cruise departure.
Your driver leaves Kotor via the only road out — running north around Boka Kotorska (the Bay of Kotor), the fjord-like inlet UNESCO considers among the world’s most beautiful bays. The first 15 km of the drive are the scenic peak: passing Perast with its Venetian waterfront and the Our Lady of the Rocks island church (Gospa od škrpjela), the Roman mosaics at Risan, and Kanli Kula fortress above Herceg Novi. From Herceg Novi the road reaches the border crossing at Debeli Brijeg (Montenegro) / Karasovići (Croatia) — our drivers prefer this traditional crossing. On the Croatian side the D8 Adriatic Highway runs along the coast past Cavtat and Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) into the city.
Perast is the standard add-on — a 30-minute stop in the village plus a short boat to Our Lady of the Rocks island (€5–7 per person, 25-minute round trip). It’s on the direct route so the detour is minimal. Herceg Novi’s walled old town with Kanli Kula fortress deserves 30 minutes if you haven’t seen it yet. For those with more time: Njegoši mountain village (Montenegro’s Petrović dynasty birthplace, famous pršut) is an inland detour via the Lovćen road, adding an hour. Cavtat on the Croatian side is a quiet harbour town 15 km before Dubrovnik — a good lunch or coffee stop after the border.
Shoulder seasons (May–June, September) are ideal — Boka Kotorska at its best without cruise-ship crowds. Peak summer (July–August) can see border queues at Debeli Brijeg of 30–60 minutes on Saturdays; our drivers may suggest an early start or the inland alternative via Njeguši. Winter is quiet and pleasant — Mediterranean climate along the whole route, restaurants in Perast and Cavtat stay open year-round, and you have the bay largely to yourself.
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) in Čilipi is just 10 minutes past the border on the way in — common drop-off for guests flying out after their Montenegro stay. For city arrivals our driver drops at Pile Gate or Ploče Gate (Old Town entrances; the Old Town is walled and pedestrian-only), Lapad and Babin Kuk hotel neighbourhoods, or Gruž port for cruise connections. For cruise departures from Gruž we recommend a 90-minute buffer before check-in given single-channel boarding.
There’s no direct bus Kotor–Dubrovnik — you change in Herceg Novi, taking 3.5–4 hours with both borders and handling luggage transfers yourself. Organised day tours run Kotor→Perast→Dubrovnik at €40–70 per person but operate on fixed schedules. Rental cars carry €50–80/day cross-border insurance surcharge. A private transfer is usually cheaper than bus-change + taxi combinations, delivers door-to-door, and includes the full Perast stop without schedule stress. For DBV airport departures we recommend a 4-hour buffer before international flight check-in.
Everything specific to this cross-border route.
Yes. Croatia joined the Schengen zone in 2023, so you'll go through passport control when crossing from Montenegro. EU citizens can use a national ID card. UK, US, Canadian, and Australian citizens need a valid passport but no visa for stays under 90 days.
Off-season: 5–10 minutes. In summer (July–August), afternoon crossings can take 20–40 minutes. We recommend morning departures in peak season. The Montenegro exit and Croatia entry checkpoints are adjacent, so it's one stop, not two.
Absolutely. Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is right on the route from Montenegro—about 20 km before Dubrovnik city. We can drop you at departures at no extra charge if you're catching a flight. We also factor in buffer time for the border crossing.
If you have time, yes. It's a relaxed harbour village just 20 minutes before Dubrovnik with waterfront cafes, a pretty promenade, and the Meštrović mausoleum. It gives you a taste of Croatian coastal life without the Dubrovnik crowds. Allow 20–30 minutes for a wander.
We regularly pick up cruise passengers from Kotor port for one-way transfers to Dubrovnik. We coordinate with your ship's departure schedule and account for border crossing time. Make sure you have your passport—you'll need it at the border.
Morning departures (8–10 AM) work best in summer for shorter border waits and quieter Perast. If you're connecting to a flight at DBV, factor in 2.5–3 hours door-to-airport including a buffer for the border. Off-season, any time is fine.
"Picked up right outside Kotor's Sea Gate and driven straight to our Dubrovnik apartment. The border took maybe 10 minutes and our driver pointed out all the best views along the bay. Much better than the crowded bus."
"We stopped at Perast on the way out of Montenegro—glad we did, the morning light was incredible. Driver was punctual, car was spotless, and he dropped us right at DBV for our flight home."
"Left our cruise ship in Kotor and needed to get to Dubrovnik for our next leg. Driver handled the border perfectly and even suggested Cavtat for a quick coffee. Professional service from start to finish."
