From the medieval bay to the Ottoman bridges. Leave Montenegro's walled town, cross two borders, follow the Adriatic through Croatia's Neum corridor, and arrive in Herzegovina where East meets West at the Stari Most.
Drive from Kotor to Mostar in approximately 3h 50m. Private transfer from €230 per vehicle, all-inclusive — fuel, tolls, English-speaking driver, door-to-door.
Your driver picks you up at the Old Town gate, your hotel, or anywhere in the Kotor area—Dobrota, Prcanj, or even Tivat. One last look at the bay before heading northwest.
Crossing at Debeli Brijeg. Driver handles documents. 5–15 minutes typical.
A small fortified town famous for the longest defensive walls in Europe (second only to China's) and some of the best oysters in the Mediterranean. Walk a section of the walls for panoramic views, or sample fresh oysters at a waterfront restaurant.
A second border crossing as you pass through Bosnia's Neum coastal strip. Quick and routine—your driver handles everything.
A medieval Ottoman village cascading down a hillside above the Neretva river. The 14th-century tower gives panoramic valley views. Pomegranate trees, a 16th-century mosque, and cobblestone lanes. One of Bosnia's most atmospheric spots.
A 25-metre waterfall crashing into an emerald swimming pool—often called Bosnia's mini Niagara. In summer you can swim below the falls. Small café and changing area on site. Entrance about €8.
Arrive at your hotel or apartment in Mostar—Old Town, Bulevar, or the western bank. Your driver drops you as close to the Stari Most as possible.

Heading the other way? Mostar to Kotor follows the same route in reverse through the Neretva valley and along the coast.
Book Mostar → Kotor →Kotor to Mostar is a 230-km cross-border transfer connecting two of the Balkans’ great Ottoman-legacy UNESCO sites: the walled medieval port at the head of Boka Kotorska (inscribed 1979) and the Old Bridge (Stari Most) over the Neretva river, destroyed in 1993 and rebuilt stone-by-stone, reopened 2004 (inscribed UNESCO 2005). The drive wraps around the bay, crosses into Bosnia at Deleuša, and climbs through the Herzegovinian karst wine country via Trebinje to Mostar. About 3h 50m direct or 5-6 with Perast and Trebinje stops. One border crossing; our driver handles paperwork and (unlike rental cars) no €50-80/day cross-border insurance surcharge.
From Kotor the bay road runs through Muo, Prcanj and Stoliv to Kamenari (where an optional 5-minute car-ferry cuts 25 km off the route), then past Risan (Illyrian mosaics) and Herceg Novi to the Sutorina valley inland. You cross into Bosnia at Deleuša/Vrac, traverse the karst plateau to Trebinje on the Trebišnjica river (world’s longest sinking river, 187 km), then continue north via Stolac and the Neretva valley to Počitelj and Mostar. The final approach drops into the Mostar basin from the east bank of the Neretva.
Perast is the classic Montenegrin stop — baroque palazzi and the taxi-boat to Our Lady of the Rocks. Trebinje is the Herzegovinian stop: 45 minutes for coffee in Slobode square or a tasting at the Tvrdoš monastery wine cellar (Žilavka whites, Vranac reds). Počitelj (Ottoman fortified hill-village on UNESCO tentative list) is 30 minutes south of Mostar and worth a 30-minute photo stop. Stolac has the UNESCO Radimlja necropolis of medieval Bosnian stećak tombstones — an underrated detour for history travellers.
April-October is the active season. Shoulder months (May-June and September) are best — warm enough for bay swimming in Kotor at the start, Herzegovinian wine country in peak harvest in September, no August crowds anywhere on the route. The Deleuša border typically clears in 10-15 minutes; peak August weekends can stretch to 30-45. Winter driving is easy (mild climate, no snow on the route) but some Trebinje cellars keep shorter hours.
Drop-off at your hotel or address. The historic centre around the Stari Most is pedestrian; we drop at the Crooked Bridge (Kriva Ćuprija) car park or the Musala quarter. Must-see: the Old Bridge itself (rebuilt to original 1566 Ottoman specifications by Mimar Hajruddin), Kujundžiluk coppersmith bazaar, Koski Mehmed-pašina mosque (climb the minaret for the best bridge view), the Neretva “bridge-jumpers” diving from the 24-m span (tradition since 1664), and the Herzegovina Museum. Currency: Convertible Mark (KM).
There is no direct bus Kotor–Mostar; public route requires a change in Trebinje or Dubrovnik with luggage handoffs. Private transfer does it under 4 hours with one border, one driver, flexible stops at Perast/Trebinje, and drop-off right at Mostar’s pedestrian old-town gate. For travellers on a Balkan itinerary with tight timings (especially connecting to onward transfer from Mostar), private is effectively the only practical option.
Everything specific to this route.
About 3 hours 50 minutes (230 km) direct. With stops at Ston, Počitelj, and Kravica, plan for 5–6 hours. Two border crossings.
Two—Montenegro to Croatia, then Croatia to Bosnia. Both are quick and routine. Your driver handles documents at both.
One of the best natural attractions in the Balkans. The waterfall drops into a swimmable pool (summer only). Bring swimwear. Entrance about €8.
Ston's bay has farmed oysters since Roman times. Half a dozen fresh oysters cost about €10–15 at waterfront restaurants. Some of the best in the Mediterranean.
Yes. Tivat Airport (TIV) is 10 minutes from Kotor. We meet you at arrivals and drive directly to Mostar.
The Stari Most (Old Bridge) is the centrepiece—watch the divers jump from the 24-metre span. Then explore the Old Bazaar, visit the mosques, and try local cuisine by the river.
"Three countries in one drive! Ston oysters were incredible, Počitelj was hauntingly beautiful, and swimming at Kravica was the highlight. Arrived in Mostar for a sunset walk to the bridge."
"Our driver was like a tour guide—knew exactly where to stop and for how long. The two border crossings were seamless. Mostar blew us away. Best decision of our trip."
"Picked up at Tivat Airport after a late flight. Driver was tracking our arrival. At our hotel in Mostar by evening. Professional, punctual, friendly."
