Leave the Ottoman bridges behind and head west through Herzegovina's wine country into Croatia. Pass medieval fortresses, stop at a mystical Dervish monastery, and arrive at Diocletian's Roman palace on the Dalmatian coast.
Drive from Mostar to Split in approximately 2h 40m. Private transfer from €220 per vehicle, all-inclusive — fuel, tolls, English-speaking driver, door-to-door.
Your driver collects you from your hotel or apartment anywhere in Mostar—Old Town, Bulevar, Musala, or the western bank. Bags loaded, A/C on, bottled water and Air conditioning on. One last look at the Stari Most from the car as you head west.
A 16th-century Dervish monastery built into the cliff face where the Buna river emerges from a cave. One of Bosnia's most photographed spots. Grab a Turkish coffee at the riverside restaurant and watch the emerald water flow from the rock. Quick stop, huge impact.
The crossing at Bijaca is the main route between Mostar and Split. Your driver handles documents while you stay in the car. Typical wait is 5–15 minutes, though summer weekends can push to 30 minutes. EU/UK/US/Canadian/Australian passports need no visa for either country.
A massive sinkhole lake with impossibly blue water, surrounded by 200-metre cliffs. The Red Lake nearby is even deeper—one of the deepest in Europe. The small town of Imotski has a ruined fortress perched right on the crater rim with panoramic views. A hidden gem most tourists miss entirely.
The medieval fortress that held off the Ottomans for decades—and more recently starred as Meereen in Game of Thrones. Perched on a cliff above the Split valley, the views stretch from the mountains to the sea. Entrance is about €8. Your driver waits in the car park below.
Arrive at your accommodation anywhere in Split—Diocletian's Palace area, Bacvice, Znjan, the ferry port, or Split Airport if you're connecting to a flight. Your driver drops you at the door and helps with luggage.

Traveling the other way? Split to Mostar follows the same corridor in reverse, with a stop at Kravica Waterfalls along the way.
Book Split → Mostar →Mostar to Split is Herzegovina’s primary route to the central Dalmatian coast — 170 km across the Bosnia–Croatia border at Kamensko, through the Imotski karst plateau, and down to Croatia’s second city on the Adriatic. About 2h 40m direct, or 4–5 hours with the classic Imotski Blue Lake and Klis Fortress stops. Most bookings are one-way transfers as part of a Balkan-to-Dalmatia itinerary, often continuing to island ferries from Split’s Trajektna Luka port.
Your driver leaves Mostar heading west across the Herzegovina basin. The road passes the Kravica Waterfalls turnoff (40 km from Mostar), then climbs to the Croatian border crossing at Kamensko / Gorica — quieter than the coastal Neum borders, and typically 5–15 minute waits. On the Croatian side the route drops down through the Imotski karst region — a moonscape of limestone poljes (sinkholes) that includes the famous Blue Lake and Red Lake. From Trilj the road joins the A1 motorway north to Split, or takes the scenic back road past Klis Fortress (the hilltop stronghold featured in HBO’s Game of Thrones as Meereen).
Two high-value stops transform this route. Imotski Blue Lake (Modro jezero) is a 220-metre-deep karst crater lake 90 km from Mostar — vivid turquoise water in summer, almost dry by late August. A 30-minute photo stop with a walk down the access path is the common pattern. Klis Fortress, 8 km before Split, gave HBO’s Game of Thrones the iconic Meereen exterior shots and has one of the best Split valley views in central Dalmatia — 45–60 minutes including the short climb. For full-day trips, Kravica Waterfalls (15 km south of Mostar, 25-metre horseshoe fall, swim June–September) is the Bosnian-side add-on before you leave Herzegovina.
Spring and autumn are best — Imotski’s Blue Lake is at peak colour in May–June (snowmelt fills it to 60+ metres deep) and again after autumn rains. Summer is fine but the A1 motorway around Split can slow on Saturdays when Dalmatian coast apartments change over. Winter is fast — the whole route takes 2h 30m with no traffic — but the Kamensko plateau occasionally gets snow (plan 30 extra minutes December–February).
Split is built around Diocletian’s Palace, the 4th-century Roman emperor’s retirement residence that now houses half the Old Town. Our driver drops you at the Riva waterfront — 3 minutes’ walk from the Peristyle courtyard at the Palace centre. Ferries to Hvar, Brač, šolta, and Vis depart from Trajektna Luka port, a 5-minute walk from the Riva. Marjan hill for the best city viewpoints is 10 minutes west along the promenade. For onward: Trogir (UNESCO old town) 25 km north, Split Airport (SPU) 25 km north, ferry to Italy (Ancona, Bari) with overnight sailings.
Bus runs 3–4 times daily Mostar–Split, takes 3h 30m–4 hours, and costs €15–25 per person. Works but skips Imotski and Klis, drops you at Split’s distant bus station, and has no luggage flexibility. No train. Rental cars carry €50–80/day cross-border insurance surcharges. Private transfer is door-to-door (hotel in Mostar direct to any Split address including the ferry port), allows Blue Lake and Klis stops at your pace, and for 2+ passengers is usually competitive on price per person. Common booking pattern: Mostar departure around 10:00, 30-minute Imotski stop, lunch in Split Old Town by 14:00.
Everything specific to this route.
About 2 hours 40 minutes (170 km) via the main highway. The border crossing adds 5–30 minutes depending on the season. With an optional stop at Imotski or Klis, plan for 3.5–4 hours total.
Absolutely—it's only 10 minutes from Mostar and the setting is extraordinary. A Dervish monastery built into a cliff with an underground river emerging from a cave. Allow 15–20 minutes for photos and a coffee. Free to visit the grounds; the monastery interior is about €5.
You cross at Bijaca, the main Bosnia–Croatia border point on this route. Stay in the car with your passport ready. Your driver presents all documents. EU citizens pass quickly; non-EU typically 5–15 minutes. Summer weekends can be busier.
Yes—tell your driver when you book. It's a short detour off the main road on the Croatian side. The lake is free to view from the rim; there's also a walking path down to the water in summer. Allow 30 minutes for photos and the viewpoint.
Morning departures (8–10 AM) beat the border queues and give you the whole afternoon in Split. For a sunset arrival, leave around 3–4 PM. We operate 24/7.
Yes. Split Airport (SPU) is along the approach route, about 25 km before the city. We drop you at the departures terminal at no extra charge. Just mention it when booking.
"The stop at Blagaj was magical—I had no idea this place existed. Our driver suggested it and I'm so glad we went. Then straight to our apartment in Split with zero stress."
"We added the Klis Fortress stop for my husband who's a Game of Thrones fan. Totally worth it—the views were incredible. Driver waited patiently and we were at our hotel in Split 45 minutes later."
"Clean car, friendly driver, smooth border crossing. He even recommended a restaurant in Split for our first dinner. Third time using Easy Balkan—never disappointed."
