Quick stop free · extended visit from €15

Blagaj Tekke

12 km from Mostar ~15 min

A 16th-century Dervish monastery built into a cliff face beside the source of the Buna river. One of Bosnia's most photographed spots and it's just a short detour from Mostar. Worth the stop if you haven't visited during your Mostar stay.

Quick stop free · extended visit from €15

Počitelj fortress

30 km from Mostar ~30 min

A medieval Ottoman village clinging to a hillside above the Neretva. Climb the watchtower for panoramic views of the valley. Pomegranate trees, stone houses, and an atmosphere that hasn't changed in centuries. Right along the main road—no detour.

Neum border corridor

90 km from Mostar ~1h 30m

The route passes through Neum, Bosnia's only coastal town, which briefly interrupts the Croatian coastline. You'll cross the Bosnia–Croatia border here. Your driver handles all passport formalities. Since the Pelješac Bridge opened, some routes bypass Neum entirely—your driver will choose the fastest option on the day.

Drop-off anywhere in Dubrovnik—Old Town (Pile Gate or Ploce Gate), Lapad, Gruz cruise port, or straight to Dubrovnik Airport (DBV). If you're catching a flight, your driver factors in border wait time and gets you there with time to spare.

About the Mostar to Dubrovnik transfer

Mostar to Dubrovnik is the reverse of the Balkans’ most popular transfer route — 140 km south through Herzegovina’s Neretva valley, one border at Doljani/Metković, and about 2h 30m direct or 4–5 hours with the standard sightseeing stops. Most bookings are continuations: travellers who visited Sarajevo and Mostar on a Balkan loop, now heading back to the Adriatic for their return flight from Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) or an onward cruise.

The route itself

Your driver picks you up anywhere in Mostar — hotel, apartment, Old Town edge (the cobbled lanes around Stari Most are pedestrian-only). The road heads south along the Neretva river, passing the preserved Ottoman fortress village of Počitelj (35 km from Mostar, worth a 30-minute stop) and the Kravica Waterfalls turnoff (15 km off the main road, 25-metre horseshoe fall, swimming June–September). After Čapljina the road crosses into Croatia at the Doljani / Metković crossing, then picks up the D8 Adriatic Highway and runs down the coast via Neum (the 20 km Bosnian coastal strip, two more EU borders but now Schengen-internal with Croatia) into Dubrovnik.

When to go and what to expect

This direction is slightly less congested than the northbound Dubrovnik→Mostar direction during peak summer (day-trippers flow the other way). Border at Metković is the quieter of the Herzegovina–Dalmatia crossings — usually 5–15 minutes. Saturday changeover traffic along the Dalmatian coast can slow the final 30 km into Dubrovnik in July–August. Airport-bound transfers timed for 13:00–16:00 usually have the smoothest traffic.

Arrival in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is geographically isolated at the tip of a narrow coastal strip — your driver drops you at any accessible address (Old Town Pile Gate, Lapad, Babin Kuk, Gruž port, or direct to Dubrovnik Airport in Čilipi 21 km south of the city). The Old Town itself is walled and fully pedestrian. For cruise passengers: Gruž port is the drop-off; for ferries to Hvar, Bari, or Ancona (Jadrolinija): same port. Allow 3–4 hours to walk Stradun, the City Walls (2 km loop, 1–2 hours), and the Rector’s Palace.

Why private transfer vs alternatives

Bus runs twice daily Mostar–Dubrovnik, takes 4+ hours with cross-border formalities at Neum, and costs €20–30 per person; works but skips Počitelj and Kravica, and dumps you at Dubrovnik’s distant bus station with a further taxi ride. No train exists. Rental cars carry the €50–80/day cross-border insurance surcharge, plus you handle the borders yourself. Private transfer is door-to-door from any Mostar address to any Dubrovnik address or DBV airport. For time-sensitive airport arrivals we recommend at least 4 hours buffer before international flight check-in; your driver monitors traffic en route and can reroute via the inland option if the coast slows.

Route FAQ

Mostar to Dubrovnik questions

Everything specific to this route.

Will I make my flight from Dubrovnik Airport?

+

The drive is approximately 2 hours 28 minutes (140 km) plus 5–30 minutes at the border. We recommend leaving Mostar 4 hours before your flight. In peak summer, add 30 extra minutes. Your driver monitors border conditions and adjusts the route if needed.

Can you drop me at the Dubrovnik cruise port?

+

Yes. The Gruz cruise port is in Dubrovnik and we drop you directly at the terminal. Let us know your ship name and boarding time—we'll calculate the departure from Mostar to get you there comfortably.

Is the Pelješac Bridge route faster?

+

Sometimes. The Pelješac Bridge bypasses the Neum corridor entirely, avoiding the Bosnia–Croatia border. However, the route is slightly longer in distance. Your driver will choose whichever is fastest on the day based on traffic and border conditions.

Can I stop at Kravica Falls on the way?

+

Kravica is better suited to the Dubrovnik→Mostar direction (it's a short detour coming from the coast). From Mostar heading south, Počitelj and Blagaj are the natural stops along the route. If Kravica is important to you, let us know and we'll factor in the detour.

What time should I leave Mostar?

+

For a Dubrovnik hotel: any time suits. For an afternoon flight: leave by 10 AM. For a morning flight: leave at 5–6 AM (early starts are common on this route, our drivers are used to them). We operate 24/7.

Is this route safe?

+

Absolutely. The Mostar–Dubrovnik road is a well-maintained European highway. It's one of the most-traveled tourist routes in the Western Balkans. Our drivers know every kilometre of this road.
