Heading back? Ksamil to Dubrovnik follows the coast north through Albania and Montenegro.
Book Ksamil → Dubrovnik →Dubrovnik to Ksamil is the signature Adriatic-to-Albanian-Riviera transfer — 287 km through Montenegro to Albania’s southernmost beach village, famous for Caribbean-turquoise waters and the Ksamil islands. Two borders (Montenegro and Albania), about 5h 45m direct or 7–8 hours with coastal stops. Most bookings are for Ksamil-specific holidays — travellers have specifically chosen Ksamil over Greek islands for the dramatic value proposition (accommodation is 30–40% cheaper than Corfu directly across the strait).
Your driver heads south from Dubrovnik on the D8, crosses into Montenegro at Debeli Brijeg, and uses the inland route via Sozina Tunnel past Podgorica. From there the road continues through Lake Skadar to the Albanian border at Hani i Hotit. Into Albania, the route runs along Lake Shkodër through Shkodër city, joins the coast at Vlorë, crosses the Llogara Pass (1,027m, Ionian Sea reveal), and follows the Albanian Riviera south through Dhërmi, Himarë, Porto Palermo, and Sarandë before reaching Ksamil — 17 km south of Sarandë on the final stretch to the Greek border.
Shkodër’s Rozafa castle (30 min photo stop). Llogara Pass viewpoint for the Ionian reveal. Dhërmi beach for a swim break (45 min). Butrint National Park (UNESCO Roman, Byzantine, and Venetian ruins) — 4 km north of Ksamil, worth a 90-minute visit either en route or as a day trip after check-in. Blue Eye spring inland from Sarandë (30-min detour).
Ksamil is fully seasonal — June through early September is the window. The Ksamil islands (four small islets reachable by swimming, paddleboard, or small boat rental from the beach) are the signature draw. July–August is busy with tight beach space; shoulder months (late May–early June, mid September) offer the same turquoise water with far fewer crowds. Winter Ksamil is mostly closed. Summer borders add 30–90 min; plan accordingly.
Ksamil is a compact beach village, increasingly built-up with new hotels and restaurants. Our driver drops at any accommodation. Beach access is along the main coastal road; the four Ksamil islands are 50–200 metres offshore. Butrint UNESCO site is 4 km north — easy half-day visit. Sarandë for ferry connections to Corfu is 17 km north. Greek border at Kakavija 80 km east if continuing to mainland Greece or the Aegean.
No direct bus. Rental cars carry €50–80/day cross-border insurance plus the Albanian Riviera mountain driving. Private transfer is the practical way to reach Ksamil from Dubrovnik — door-to-door, both borders handled, scenic stops on your schedule. For beach-holiday bookings we recommend early morning departure to arrive with afternoon swim time.

Very safe for tourists. Albania has become one of the fastest-growing tourism destinations in Europe. The Albanian Riviera is welcoming, affordable, and stunningly beautiful.
"Ksamil blew our minds. The water is unreal—clearer than anything in Croatia. The drive through three countries was an adventure in itself. Driver was fantastic."
"Long drive but totally worth it. Stopped in Budva for a walk and Sarandë for lunch. Arrived at Ksamil in time for a sunset swim. Paradise."
"Two borders, three countries, zero stress. Driver handled everything while we enjoyed the scenery. Ksamil is the hidden gem everyone talks about—and it delivers."
