About the Kotor to Budva transfer

Kotor to Budva is the shortest coastal transfer we operate in Montenegro — 25 km, roughly 30 minutes, no borders. The route connects the UNESCO-listed walled port at the head of Boka Kotorska (inscribed 1979) to Budva’s 15th-century Venetian Stari Grad, the centre of Montenegro’s most visited beach resort. Between the two sit the Vrmac mountain ridge tunnel and the beach belt that includes Jaz, Becici, and the iconic Sveti Stefan island hotel 5 km south of Budva town.

The route itself

From Kotor you take the M2.3 south along the bay to Tivat (7 km), through the Vrmac tunnel (1.6 km, saves 25 minutes versus the old Lovcen mountain road), and drop onto the Adriatic coast near Tivat Airport. From there the coastal road continues south past Jaz Beach and the Becici cliff-road into Budva. The entire drive is well-surfaced; the tunnel section is the only place where the scenery pauses. Traffic occasionally slows in summer around Tivat (airport pickups) and at the Budva roundabout entering Stari Grad.

Optional stops

Jaz Beach is the classic add-on — a 1.2 km pebble beach on a protected bay, home to the summer Sea Dance Festival. Tivat’s Porto Montenegro superyacht marina is 8 km from Kotor and worth 30 minutes if you haven’t seen a full-service yacht port before. Past Budva, Sveti Stefan (5 km south) is the classic Montenegro postcard — the red-roofed hotel-island connected to shore by a narrow isthmus, now an Aman luxury resort. We can drop at Sveti Stefan for a small extension of the route.

Arrival in Budva

Drop-off at your hotel or at the Stari Grad gate. Budva’s Old Town is fully pedestrian behind the 15th-century Venetian walls — we drop at the Sea Gate on the harbour side. Key sights: Citadela fortress at the Old Town’s southern tip, Santa Marija in Punta church (15th c.), the Venetian-era piazza, and Mogren Beach just past the Citadela. Budva’s beach belt stretches 11 km south to Sveti Stefan, lined with restaurants and summer bars. Currency: Euro. Tivat Airport (TIV) is 20 km north if you continue by air.

When to go

Budva is Montenegro’s summer capital — peak season is July-August (the beach belt fills, nightlife runs until 4 AM, Old Town restaurants book out). Shoulder season (May-June and September-early October) is the sweet spot: warm Adriatic, full restaurant calendar, manageable crowds. Winter is quiet but the Old Town stays open year-round and some beachfront hotels offer 60% off rack rates. The 30-minute drive itself is reliable year-round.

Why private transfer

Public bus Kotor-Budva runs every 30 minutes in summer (~€3 one-way) — cheap but involves walking to and from the stations, no luggage handling, and no drop at the Old Town gate (bus stops are 500 m away). Taxi is ~€30-40 with potential surge in summer. Private transfer is fixed price, door-to-door, luggage handled, predictable arrival — and our drivers can coordinate with your hotel check-in or ferry connection. For groups of 3+, it's also cheaper than three separate taxi fares.
