Getting around from Sarajevo

Sarajevo sits in a narrow valley surrounded by mountains — beautiful, but geographically challenging for ground transport. The airport is small with limited international flights, the railway barely functions, and buses to Croatia require 5–7 hours through mountain passes. Getting to the coast from Sarajevo by public transport is an all-day affair.

A private transfer changes the equation entirely. The route to Mostar (2 hours) follows the Neretva River through one of Europe's most spectacular gorges, with optional stops at Konjic and Jablanica. The route to Dubrovnik (4 hours) passes through all of Herzegovina's highlights — Mostar, Počitelj, Kravica Waterfalls — turning a long drive into a sightseeing day. And for destinations like Travnik, Jajce, or Višegrad that have minimal or no bus service, transfers are the only realistic option for visitors.

Bosnia's roads have improved dramatically in the last decade, but navigation can still be confusing — signage is inconsistent, GPS sometimes suggests unpaved routes, and mountain weather can change quickly. A local driver eliminates all of this.

Seasonal tips

Jun–Aug: Warm and busy. The Sarajevo-Mostar road is the busiest route in Bosnia. Croatian coastal destinations are in peak demand — book 3+ days ahead. Sarajevo Film Festival (mid-August) spikes airport transfer demand for a week.
Apr–May, Sep–Oct: Perfect transfer weather. Mountain passes are clear, Herzegovina is warm, and you'll have Kravica Falls and Počitelj without crowds.
Nov–Mar: Winter conditions on mountain routes. The Ivan Sedlo pass (Sarajevo-Mostar) can have snow and fog. Our drivers use winter tyres and know the road intimately. Some scenic stops may be less accessible.

Common Questions

Transfers from Sarajevo

Where do you pick me up in Sarajevo?

+

Anywhere in the Sarajevo area—Bascarsija, city centre, Ilidza, or the airport. The Old Town has some pedestrian zones, so we meet at the nearest road.

How long is Sarajevo to Dubrovnik?

+

About 4 hours 15 minutes (270 km) with one border crossing. With a Mostar stop, plan for 5.5–6.5 hours. It’s our most popular Sarajevo route.

Does the Sarajevo to Mostar route cross a border?

+

No—both cities are in Bosnia & Herzegovina. It’s a straightforward 2-hour drive over the Ivan Sedlo pass.

Are prices per person or per vehicle?

+

Per vehicle. Sedans fit 1–3 passengers; minivans fit 4–8. The per-person cost is very competitive with bus tickets.

Can you take me to Sarajevo Airport?

+

Yes—SJJ is 12 km from the centre. We can pick you up or drop you off at departures on any route.

What should I see in Sarajevo?

+

Bascarsija bazaar, Latin Bridge, Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, the Tunnel of Hope, and a Bosnian coffee in a traditional kafana. The city’s East-meets-West atmosphere is unlike anywhere else.
