Heading to Split? Trogir to Split is the same quick coastal ride in reverse.
Book Trogir → Split →Split to Trogir is the shortest and most scenic classic-Dalmatia hop — just 30 km along the coastal D8 road, past Split Airport (SPU) and through Kaštela bay to Trogir’s island old town. Trogir has been a continuously inhabited urban site for nearly 2,300 years; the current Venetian-era street plan dates from the 13th century and the whole historic centre has been UNESCO-listed since 1997. It is one of the best-preserved small medieval cities in Central Europe — more compact than Dubrovnik, more stone-tight than Hvar, and still lived-in rather than theme-parked. The drive is 30 minutes but the city deserves at least 3 hours.
From Split’s Bacvice or Diocletian’s Palace the D8 heads west, skirts the industrial zone of Solin (Roman Salona archaeological park worth a glance) and runs through Kaštela — a string of seven coastal villages (Kaštel Stari, Kaštel Novi, Kaštel Sućurac, Kaštel Gomilica, Kaštel Kambelovac, Kaštel Lu&kšić, Kaštel Štafilić) each with a fortified tower-house on the waterfront. You pass the turn for Split Airport (SPU) at Rešetari junction and arrive at Trogir’s Čiovo bridge. The old town sits on a small island between the mainland and the much larger Čiovo island; our driver drops at the Land Gate or the marina side depending on your stay.
Klis Fortress (10 km inland from Split, on the ridge above the city) is the classic add-on — a medieval Croatian stronghold used as a Game of Thrones filming location for Meereen, with commanding views over Split’s plain. Roman Salona (Solin) is a 15-minute stop if archaeology interests you — former capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia, birthplace of Emperor Diocletian, with ruins of the amphitheatre, theatre and early Christian basilicas spread over a hillside. The Kaštela coastal road itself is a string of waterfront konobas and fish restaurants — Bajamonti or Kalelarga in Kaštel Stari are worth a lunch stop.
Trogir is busiest in July-August when cruise-ship day visitors flood the narrow streets; early morning (before 10am) or late afternoon (after 5pm) is the local’s window. May-June and September offer the full restaurant calendar without the crush. The Kamerlengo Fortress hosts a Summer Music Festival in July-August worth coordinating with. Winter is quiet — many restaurants shut — but the old town is atmospheric and accommodation prices drop by 60%.
Drop-off at the Land Gate (Kopnena Vrata) on the north side of the island or at your hotel on Čiovo. Must-see within 15 minutes’ walk: the Cathedral of St. Lawrence with Master Radovan’s Romanesque portal (1240, the masterwork of medieval Dalmatian sculpture); the Kamerlengo Fortress on the western tip (Venetian castello, now a summer concert venue); Marmont’s Gazebo on the Riva; and Čipiko Palace with its Gothic triforium. For flights, Split Airport (SPU) is 5 km — Trogir is genuinely the closest town to the airport and a popular fly-in fly-out base.
Public bus 37 runs Split–Trogir every 20 minutes and is genuinely cheap, but you lose 45 minutes in terminal-to-terminal time plus luggage-handling on a crowded coastal bus. Private transfer does it door-to-door in 30 minutes with optional Klis, Salona or Kaštela detours — especially useful when arriving from Split with morning flight luggage and heading straight to Trogir accommodation, or when returning to Split Airport and wanting one final coastal stop.
Everything specific to this route.

Just 5 km—about 5 minutes by car. We can pick you up at SPU and have you in Trogir almost immediately.
If you have 30 minutes, absolutely. Dramatic clifftop views, Game of Thrones filming location, and it barely adds to the journey since it's between Split and Trogir.
Yes—many clients book both directions. Same fixed price, same door-to-door service.
"Quick, easy, affordable. Picked up at our Split hotel and at our Trogir apartment in 30 minutes. Added a Salona stop—fascinating Roman ruins with nobody there. Great value."
"Airport to Trogir in 10 minutes flat. Driver was waiting with our name, helped with all the bags, and knew exactly where our rental was. Couldn't be easier."
"Added the Klis Fortress on the way—the views were spectacular and our kids loved the Game of Thrones connection. Then into Trogir for an evening stroll. Perfect start to our holiday."
