Getting around from Split

Split is Croatia's transport hub — with an international airport, ferry port, and motorway connections in every direction. But while the infrastructure is good for Croatia, getting to neighbouring countries is where things get complicated. There's no direct train to Bosnia, the bus to Dubrovnik crawls along the coast for 5 hours with multiple stops, and rental car cross-border insurance adds €50–80 per day.

A private transfer from Split opens up routes that are impractical any other way. The Mostar route via the Neretva gorge has no direct bus and passes through some of the most dramatic scenery in Europe. The Dubrovnik route can include stops at Ston for oysters and along the Makarska Riviera — neither of which the bus does. And for Plitvice Lakes (90 minutes by car from Zadar, 3 hours from Split), a transfer-plus-sightseeing combo beats every alternative.

Split also connects north to Zagreb via the A1 motorway (4.5 hours), to the islands via ferry from the city port, and down to Montenegro via the scenic coastal road through Dubrovnik.

Seasonal tips

Jun–Aug: Split is packed. The Riva promenade and Diocletian's Palace overflow with cruise passengers. Book airport transfers at least 48 hours ahead. Traffic on the coastal road south can double journey times.
Apr–May, Sep–Oct: Ideal for transfers. Pleasant weather, manageable traffic, and all attractions open. The Krka and Plitvice day trips are far more enjoyable without summer crowds.
Nov–Mar: Low season. Airport transfers and long-distance routes available year-round. Some island ferries run reduced schedules. The Biokovo mountain road may close in snow.
Ferry connections: We time transfers to connect with Jadrolinija ferries to Hvar, Brač, Vis, and Korčula. Let us know your ferry time and we'll get you there with buffer.
