Heading north? Vlorë to Dubrovnik follows the same route back through Albania and Montenegro.
Book Vlorë → Dubrovnik →Dubrovnik to Vlorë is a 520-km cross-Balkans coastal drive from Croatia’s UNESCO walled Adriatic city down through Montenegro to Albania’s second-largest port city on the Bay of Vlorë. About 9 hours direct, three border crossings, and a route that passes through some of the most scenic Adriatic coastline in the Balkans — notably the Llogara Pass (1,027 m, the dramatic Albanian Riviera transition) on the approach from Sarandë if extending south. Vlorë is historically significant as the site of the Albanian Declaration of Independence (1912) by Ismail Qemali, and today is the northern anchor of the Albanian Riviera beach belt.
From Dubrovnik south to the Montenegrin border at Debeli Brijeg, through Herceg Novi and Budva to Podgorica, then south-east via Lake Skadar to the Albanian border at Hani i Hotit. Inside Albania the SH1 dual-carriageway runs south through Shkodër and Tirana, then the SH2/SH8 continues south-west to Vlorë on the coast.
Drop-off at your address. Must-see: Independence Square (Sheshi i Flamurit) with the independence monument commemorating Ismail Qemali’s 1912 declaration, Kuz Baba Ottoman tekke, the Muradi Mosque (1537 Ottoman, still active), the Ethnographic Museum, and the beach-front Lungomare promenade. The Karaburun-Sazan Marine National Park (Albania’s first marine protected area, 2010) is accessed by boat from Vlorë. Currency: Albanian Lek (ALL).
Public transport Dubrovnik–Vlorë requires at least 3 changes and 15+ hours, with timing that forces an overnight in Tirana. Private car at 9 hours is the only same-day option, particularly relevant for Albanian Riviera itineraries where Vlorë is the entry point to the Llogara Pass coastal stretch.
